About Marah

Ever since I can remember I was longing to get a deeper understanding of my life and the world around me. My little micro cosmos couldn`t be all there was to existence – there was a connectedness much bigger than that. Early on, this led to a rebellious and confrontational teenage and adulthood. I wanted to break free of conventional patterns and live life consciously and responsibly with regard to the bigger picture. I wanted to make a difference.
Having travelled Asia, Africa and the Americas, I fell in love with Central America, where I enjoyed life for one year shortly after graduating from highschool. I returned many times after, staying for months in the Caribbean. Meanwhile I continued my scholar education in the fields of Ethnology and Indology, with a focus on marginalized and subaltern communities.
My scholastic knowledge and the experiences made during my travels – my many stays in remote areas where life is led at a different pace and with different aspirations, the recognition of solitude and quietude as comforting means to reconnect with oneself, the beauty and sensuality of nature – nurtured an approach towards life that is deeply related to yogic philosophy:
The experience of one self as part of something bigger and deeply meaningful, which may be revealed through mindfulness in day to day life.
The Practice
In 2008 I started to focus on yoga asana practice, immersing myself in Vinyasa Flow and Iyengar style classes.
When I began to incorporate a daily practice into my routine, Yoga changed me profoundly. It clarified my path, it gave me focus and perseverance and it made me a gentler and more content human being. To me, this is the magic of Yoga:
By clearing away whatever prevents us from living in our most full and whole way, we reconnect to our inherent blissful state, become aligned with ourselves and the world around us, and begin to live life accordingly.
The Teaching
With my move to Los Angeles in 2012, I decided to dedicate my path entirely to the path of yoga. Consecutively I graduated from my first teacher training in 2013 on the Bahamas.
Ever since, I am continuously educating myself and teaching in many locations, such as the Bahamas, Los Angeles and Munich, where I currently reside.
To witness the effects of yoga in my students is a blessing and sharing this incredible practice is my calling.
The Lineage
I have completed more than 1000 hours of Yoga Alliance approved curriculum. After all, I believe that quality and integrity make for excellence in teaching.
